Seward to Palmer, AK

August 13, 2013

We had some good weather for our drive back north. We could see the tops of the mountains during our drive along Turnagain Arm. We arrived fairly early at our campground Mountainview RV Park. There is a large mountain behind the Park. Sitting idly in the sun I spotted some movement and white up near the top of a minor peak. Turned out there were 6 Dall Sheep that I could count, all appeared to be ewes.

Palmer, AK

August 14, 2013

This was my day off as I wasn’t feeling well. Donna and Katherine went with the others in Palmer to the Visitors Center for a video of the founding of Palmer with the Colony. This was a government program from the depression era where farm families from Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin who had lost their farms and everything else. They were given land in the Matanuska Valley to farm along with a house to live in. One of the remaining original homes arranged a museum of typical life was visited.

That evening we had a Pot luck supper. We used all local grown potatoes, dill, and parsley for our Alaskan Patriotic Potato Salad…red skin potatoes, white peanut potatoes, and Alaskan Blue Potatoes.
